My dream is to reduce or totally eradicate the numbers of surgeries performed in the dark in the rural areas of Nigeria.
I was working voluntarily in a small clinic in 2013. We were performing surgery on this faithful day and all of a sudden there was power outage (as usual). The patient was already opened up. As a result there was chaos and she started bleeding out! The doctors and nurses could not do anything because it was dark and they could not see. The next plan of action was that everyone started switching on their phone torch light phones and lamps; just anything that could illuminate the operating room so that surgery can continue and the woman do not bleed to death.
I was very sad and took it as a project to provide rural hospital locally produced surgical headlight since this hospital could not afford the imported surgical headlights.

1) In my quest to fulfil my dream of seeing the reduction of surgeries done in the dark in Nigeria, i founded Greg Meditech Initiative (GMI).
2) What we do in GMI is to manufacture surgical headlight here in Nigeria hereby reducing the complications that occur due to performing surgeries in the dark.
3) So far we have produce over 10 surgical headlight and have distributed them for free to rural and community hospitals in ile-ife, Osun State, Nigeria.
4) We have our prototype product and we intend to reach out to more hospital that can not afford to buy the imported surgical headlights.
5) Earlier this year, we partnered with an engineering company to improve the quality of the headlight.
6) In 2014 when LEAP Africa heard about my project, i was chosen to be one of their 20 fellow for 2015 in their Social Innovation Program (SIP 2015) and this has helped our action plan so far.
7) we also intend to reach out to many other rural hospital in other states in the country.
